It is Well.

Later in the week I am going to share a journal entry from a time where the words of this song provided words for the longing that was found within my soul. A belief that I was hoping to find truth in.  The story is testament to His meeting me with the assured foundation for me to claim this upon.  So perhaps consider this a setting of the stage.  If you are a journaler, take the time to sift through the words of this song and reflect on the places that make it hard to claim or believe what has been done for you.   Speak of and pray over stories that cause you to question or have shored up your belief.  Both are good and worthy in His sight and I believe that He is at work to redeem and reconcile both to Himself.  Where do you see the hope? Where do you find the doubt? What keeps you from the peace? What is the root that allows you to believe that it is not well at all?

I’ve experienced all of those questions and have answers to go with most of them as well.  But each one is met with a story; each story tells of a time where I saw His face or an opportunity still yet to be had.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll;

Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,

Let this blessed assurance control,

That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,

And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!

My sin, not in part but the whole,

Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,

The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;

The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,

Even so, it is well with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,

It is well, with my soul,
