I plan on sharing my notes with you here once a week. I think it is so important for us to get in the Word; to find the promise that keeps us moving forward, to find the truth that roots our feet, and to remember that we serve (and are served by) a Father who is for us.
Within the body of SOMA, we look at Bible passages with four key questions-
Who Is God?
What Has He Done?
Who Am I?
What Is My Response?
I have found this to be such a fruitful way for me to journal and seek out the truths that are held for me within the Word. Therefore, this is how I intend to share my notes with you here.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Who is God?
Glory revealed, helper, future, freedom, cause of hope, with us, purpose, knower of all hearts
What has He done?
Freed us from death and decay, adopted us, will give us the full right of heaven, saved, promised us new bodies, given us an inheritance, gave us right standing, gave us glory, given us security in heaven, left us with His Spirit to provide us with constant communion, works everything together for our good
Who am I?
Child of God, free, adopted, saved, called, chosen
What is my response?
To have eager hope for what is to come, wait patiently in confidence of what is to come, come to him with our groanings, life in communion with Him in the knowledge of His desired community with me
I wrote about the hope found in these verses in Chains. Time is the fourth chapter, I spoke of our hope in the concept of time. The reminder of His workings within our earthly groanings, within our suffering. These verses have been an encouragement to me as suffering is part of my daily reality of my earthly broken body. I love that He not only intended from the beginning, but promises for the future, a transformation of our bodies and a liberation from our suffering; through that we can be hopeful as the verses instruct in what is to come with the promise of heaven, when we will be freed from sin and sickness and evil. That He left the Spirit in His place to intercede on our behalf to fight for our freedom and plead for a release from our earthly trials is a marking of His desire to be with us in constant and intimate communion; this is a foretaste of heaven. And lastly, I love verse 24 and how it helps to understand that we are continually being saved; past, present and future. We were saved the moment we first believed (ransomed), we are currently being saved through the acts of sanctification/restoration(rescued) and we will will be finally saved when we reach heaven and the full weight and freedom of the blessings He intended for us from the beginning are revealed (redeemed).
There is a lot of meat in these verses, dear ones. May you rest in the comfort and move forward He has for each one of us.
